Dyslexia Correction Program

How does the dyslexia correction program work?

The dyslexia correction program conditionally consists of several parts:

1. Acquisition of tools for self-control of perception (attention).

When a person with dyslexia reads, his perception of information may be distorted: for example, letters turn over, change places, dance, move, words change places or are replaced by others, they may even disappear altogether. How to read in such conditions?

For this, self-control tools are given. All these distortions of perception are responsible for a special way of using the imagination, which we call "disorientation." The disorientation is activated without the person's conscious control. But our tools help to "turn off" it, and then the letters of the text will freeze in place motionless. And then you can finally learn to read.

Other self-control tools allow you to relieve physical and mental stress and regulate the level of internal energy (which is very important when you are nervous, when the internal energy level rises and this makes it difficult to focus on the task).

2. Master the alphabet.

The main reason for the violation of perception and the inclusion of imagination in the process is the uncertainty in the letters.

For example, the English letters p d b q are the same character reversed in different directions. If there is no solid knowledge about the letter, then this character can spin and become any of them.

The letters j g have similarity in sound.

Z N, M W, l (as L) I (as i) - what can you say about these letters?

The alphabet is mastered by sculpting from plasticine and working on establishing clear guidelines for problematic letters.

3. Study and start working on words without pictures (to be continued for homework)

Imagine the words: cat, bridge, tree.

And now other words: why, about, on, which. It's harder to imagine, isn't it?

For people with visual perception, these words cause comprehension problems. These words we call trigger words. They trigger a sense of confusion that leads to disorientation. We begin to work with these words so that visual images appear on them too, so that they cease to be an obstacle to attention, understanding and memorisation.

There are about 220 such starter words in English, and 300 in Russian.

During the program, we master about 10 words, all the rest are left to do at home.

4. Reading exercises: starting a new habit.

People with dyslexia (visual-kinesthetic thinking) perceive text as a picture. For example, if you imagine a tree, then you will see it in its entirety, in one whole image, without scanning through the branches and leaves. About the same way a person with dyslexia sees the text. Therefore, there are special exercises that help you start scanning letters in a word, words in a sentence, lines one after another. This avoids mistakes.

There is also an exercise that helps you use your imagination to understand and memorize text effectively.

The Ronald Davis Correction Program works precisely at the causes of problems, eliminates them and teaches a new order. After doing homework and constantly applying self-control tools, a person with dyslexia changes tremendously. All the problematic sides go away and the creative remains,  a self-confident person who has become much easier to learn. I will be glad to help your creative child deal with learning problems and start enjoying the development of new knowledge!
